Where to begin? WOODBLOCKS

I made these as Christmas gifts on year. It was one of those years where I was low on funds & if I wanted to give something special, it was going to have to be with whatever materials I happened to have.  So I printed up enlarged sepia versions of family photos, no larger than 11"x17". I cut them up, traced the outlines onto scraps of 12"x2" wood boards. My wonderful husband cut those outlines carefully... he recommends a scroll saw. Then I stained the wood. After ample drying time (a day or so), I then proceeded to mod-podge the sepia images on to their specific piece of stained wood.

Let me tell you... decoupage can be stressful! The air pockets... the bubbling. I'd practice before jumping into that task, yikes. But, they came out wonderful! You can see the beautiful woodgrain on the sides, and they look beautiful on mantles or shelving.

They were a hit! And just think... if I'd had money that year, I  might not have come up with this idea :)  Blessings come out of unexpected experiences! I've made a few batches of these type "sculptures" through the years... and the decoupage part gets me every time :/  So good luck to you if you want to make these... PRACTICE a few scraps FIRST! <3
